Selection Criteria

UWC Selection Criteria

All UWC schools use six key standards to evaluate and select candidates:

1. Intellectual Curiosity

  • Love of learning about the world, both inside and outside the classroom.
  • Passion for in-depth exploration of at least one academic area.
  • Ability to recognize and critically analyze global and local issues.

2. Commitment to UWC Values

  • Alignment with and active practice of UWC’s core values.
  • Humility and openness to diverse perspectives.
  • Promotion of UWC values in daily life and global citizenship.

3. Social Competence

  • Respectful and appreciative interaction with others.
  • Effective teamwork and problem-solving skills.
  • Appropriate self-expression in different situations.

4. Resilience, Self-Awareness, and Independence

  • Capability to thrive in a challenging boarding school environment.
  • Development of healthy coping strategies and self-awareness.
  • Willingness to ask for help when needed.

5. Personal Responsibility and Integrity

  • Coherence between personal values, beliefs, and behaviors.
  • Mindful consideration of one’s own and others’ needs.
  • Demonstration of communal responsibility.

6. Academic Robustness

  • Potential to meet the demands of the IB Diploma or Career-related Programme.
