UWC Selection Criteria
All UWC schools use six key standards to evaluate and select candidates:
1. Intellectual Curiosity
- Love of learning about the world, both inside and outside the classroom.
- Passion for in-depth exploration of at least one academic area.
- Ability to recognize and critically analyze global and local issues.
2. Commitment to UWC Values
- Alignment with and active practice of UWC’s core values.
- Humility and openness to diverse perspectives.
- Promotion of UWC values in daily life and global citizenship.
3. Social Competence
- Respectful and appreciative interaction with others.
- Effective teamwork and problem-solving skills.
- Appropriate self-expression in different situations.
4. Resilience, Self-Awareness, and Independence
- Capability to thrive in a challenging boarding school environment.
- Development of healthy coping strategies and self-awareness.
- Willingness to ask for help when needed.
5. Personal Responsibility and Integrity
- Coherence between personal values, beliefs, and behaviors.
- Mindful consideration of one’s own and others’ needs.
- Demonstration of communal responsibility.
6. Academic Robustness
- Potential to meet the demands of the IB Diploma or Career-related Programme.
